Official: Luton Town Sign Liverpool Defender Lloyd Jones

The 22-year-old’s future lies with The Hatters.

The 22-year-old Liverpool defender has completed a deadline day switch to Luton Town, signing a two-and-a-half year deal for his new club, who paid an undisclosed fee to bring to League Two.

Jones joined Liverpool from Plymouth Argyle for £150,000 in 2011, and since then has headed out on loan four times, with stops at Cheltenham Town, Accrington Stanley, Blackpool, and Swindon Town.

He made 11 appearances for Liverpool’s U23 side this season but never made a first team appearance for the club, and finding a long-term home where he could continue his development was a must for the player.

In Luton Town, he joins a club that will expect to be playing in League One next season as they currently stand first in their division—the fourth tier of English football—and a full eight points clear.

“I want to play regular first-team football,” the defender said. “I’ve been in the Under-23s at Liverpool for quite a while and I wanted a new challenge, and I thought Luton was the right club for me.”

Hopefully, at Luton Town, he will get that chance—and the chance to rise up through the divisions with them in future seasons.
