Alisson Wants Future Decided Before World Cup
If he’s to move to Liverpool or Real Madrid, the goalkeeper wants to head to Russia with the deal already done.
According to reports out of Brazil today, Roma and Brazil number one Alisson wants to get any transfer deal done ahead of the World Cup in two weeks and he and his representatives met with Liverpool’s about a potential move over the weekend.
With Brazil taking on Croatia in a friendly at Anfield on Sunday, there opportunity for a meeting seems obvious, and Brazil’s UOL claim that’s what happened and that Liverpool are as eager as Alisson to get a deal done quickly. It won’t be that simple, though.
Roma’s reported €70M asking price, a world record fee for a goalkeeper, is a stumbling block. Plus there’s Real Madrid interest in the 25-year-old, though UOL say that an Alisson move to Madrid would partially depend on what happens with Neymar.
If Neymar heads back to Spain, the claim is that it would tip Alisson firmly in favour of a move to Madrid. Right now, though, Madrid do not appear to be aggressively pursuing Neymar, and that doesn’t line up with Alisson’s preferred timeline.
That doesn’t take Madrid out of the running for Alisson by any means, it just means there’s no clear-cut favourite in the competition to sign him and that the club that gets a deal done—if either club gets a deal done—will be the one that does it quickly.
The World Cup is nearly here and Alisson wants to go to it knowing if he’ll be returning to Roma or not at the end of it. If Liverpool really do believe he’s the man to lock down the starting job at Anfield, they don’t have much time to get a deal done.
