Liverpool Sign Striker from Manchester City Academy

The Reds have signed promising 17-year-old striker Bobby Duncan to his first professional contract.

Liverpool have today completed the signing of Bobby Duncan from the Manchester City academy, handing the 17-year-old England youth international his first professional contract in a move that had been expected for some time. He will officially join the club on July 1st.

Duncan, the cousin of Steven Gerrard, had been training on his own towards the end of the season after signalling he would not sign for City after spending six years in their system. From the point that became clear, Liverpool were always his most likely destination.

He isn’t expected to be in line for a first team role for the coming season and is likely to start with the U18s and push for a role with the u23s, and along with Dominic Solanke and Rhian Brewster his arrival now means the club have three of England’s top young strikers.

“It’s been an amazing six years at Manchester City,” the player said on Instagram earlier in the week after parting ways with his former club. “It was a difficult decision but the time is right for a new challenge and to fulfil my dreams and potential elsewhere.”

Duncan scored 66 goals in 2015-16 with City’s U16 squad and netted 30 with the u16s and u18s last year despite being frozen out for much of the second half of the season. He has scored 10 goals in 23 England appearances at the u15, u16, and u17 levels.
