Liverpool To Open International Academy In Hong Kong

They swear it’s not an elaborate plan to ship out Loris Karius.

As we saw from last year’s emphatic support from Hong Kong-based Reds during last year’s pre-season tournament, Liverpool’s global reach should neither be ignored, nor taken for granted.

It is then, perhaps, no coincidence that Liverpool are planning on opening up an international academy in Hong Kong, partnering with the local PNH Soccer Academy. Will they be learning to play The Liverpool Way™? You betcha.

Liverpool ambassador Ian Rush had the following to say (or at least attributed to him) in a press release:

“Our International Academies are a fantastic opportunity to bring authentic LFC coaching to children and young people around the world.

”This project will provide many opportunities for young players to improve a broad range of skills such as teamwork and communication.

“Alongside the player development element of this programme, coach education is an equally important aspect of the project, which is why we introduce local coaches to the same philosophies and techniques delivered at our very own Academy in Liverpool.

“Both players and coaches will get the opportunity to develop their abilities on and off the pitch and do so through ‘The Liverpool Way’.”

The academy will teach children from ages 3 to 17. Having worked extensively with 3-year-olds in my time, all I can say is “good luck.”

The international academy will launch this Saturday, June 30th, with a 500-person 3-a-side tournament, spanning 3 days.
