Mohamed Salah: “I came back to England with the desire to succeed”
Mohamed Salah always had the intention of returning to England despite how his stint ended with Chelsea, he told L’Équipe Magazine.
Salah’s drive to prove everyone wrong played a part in his return to England, and that drive to show the world he was one of the best footballers saw him conjure up an unbelievable season.
“I came back to England with the desire to succeed. A lot of people told me, “Don’t go! Stay in Rome, you have just come off a great season. But I wanted to do even better, and I feel that I have managed that at Liverpool,” said Salah.
Salah scored 44 goals in all competitions for the Reds last season, and the Egyptian feels the way Jurgen Klopp utilised him was massive in him being such a success during his first season at Anfield.
“Jürgen Klopp often asks that I be at the heart of play. He knows how to get the most from his attacking players. Just looking at the amount of goals we’ve scored in the Premier League and Champions League. From day one, he’s considered me a friend,” said Salah.
“We are close, even though, he’s the boss, and I’m a player. The quality of my teammates and their desire to help me score has also helped in my success. Plus, I work hard every day, with that desire to improve.”

Despite being a winger, when Salah was scoring and continuously scoring at the rate he was, he wanted to be the top goalscorer in the Premier League come the end of the season.
“After ten games, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and I had all scored around the same amount of goals. So I set the objective of being the best goalscorer in the Premier League. Reaching this goal, and being named player of the season – was one of the best moments in my life,” said Salah.
Salah is returning to fitness ahead of the opening game of the World Cup after injuring his shoulder in the Champions League final. He hopes to play Egypt’s first game against Uruguay.
