Liverpool named as favourites to sign Ramsey

Liverpool are the favourites to sign Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey amid his contractual deadlock, according to bookmakers Betfair.

It was widely reported on Thursday that the Gunners had little choice but to offload Ramsey, out of contract in June, after accepting that they would not come to an agreement over his salary.

It is understood that no contract offer is currently on the table, meaning Arsenal will have to sell the 27-year-old in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Betfair have installed Liverpool as the 7/2 favourites to sign the Welshman, ahead of Serie A giants AC Milan and Premier League rivals Everton and Chelsea.

The Reds went into the summer transfer window targeting an attack-minded midfielder with the capacity to score a sizeable amount of goals and create chances and may be on the lookout for alternatives after a deal for Nabil Fekir fell through.

Ramsey found the net on 12 occasions and provided 11 assists across all competitions last season, so might fit the bill.

The rumours first emerged last summer, but Echo journalist James Pearce said that he was ‘not aware of any interest’.

Jurgen Klopp has plenty of midfielders at his disposal after adding Fabinho and Naby Keita to his ranks, but may be tempted to swoop for Ramsey, whose departure is now considered an inevitability.
