Report: Sadio Mané Sustains Hand Injury
The International Break is the worst.
The International Break was supposed to give fans and players an opportunity to breathe, a little, after a hectic September that saw the squad play 7 matches in roughly 4 weeks, including matchups against their toughest opposition in this young season. It was supposed to be a break, a respite. The International Break giveth and the International Break taketh.
Hot on the heels of news that Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s turns for their respective national teams have been called short due to injuries sustained while on duty comes a report that Senegalese forward Sadio Mane also has an injury to his left hand. It is currently unclear as to whether Mané was injured in the lead up to Senegal’s African Cup of Nations tie with Sudan or in the match itself, but it is certainly a troubling sight considering that most clubs have had to deal with star players returning from an exhausting run in this past summer's World Cup, only to then have to get right back to international football.
There is no clear timeline or further detail on Mané’s injury as he will most certainly need to be looked over by the physio team at Melwood. However, fans will be able to note that he was sent to the hospital for the injury and left with a cast on his hand. There’s no word yet if this will prevent him from taking the pitch against Huddersfield this Saturday, but the hope is that as it is a hand injury, he will still be able to don the Red jersey. There is also the secondary understanding that even though there are no easy points in the Premier League, Huddersfield are currently mired at the bottom of the table and a little bit of rotation should still be enough to see a result through.
Regardless, this isn’t positive news, though it is a bit light in terms of details. As always, stay tuned to The Liverpool Offside for updates on this story as they become available.
