The Bluebirds need a right back and bringing Clyne in on loan in January would make sense for all parties.
Cardiff City have, as expected, faced something of a difficult return to life in the Premier League. The Bluebirds currently sit in 18th with just eight points from 12 games, and if the season ended today they would be relegated.
It’s not all bleak for them, though, as they’re level on points with the two sides ahead of them in the table—Southampton and Crystal Palace—and a single point back of Burnley and Newcastle. They’re struggling, but they aren’t that far off the pace.
And that, according to Wales Online, has them considering a move for Liverpool right back Nathaniel Clyne, who is said to top their list of potential fullback targets. They are also said to want to sign at least one striker and midfielder.
As for Clyne, Cardiff would be looking to bring him in on loan, which would probably suit all parties—Clyne isn’t going to want to end up stuck at a club that could be relegated and if the eventual goal for Liverpool is to sell it would help if Clyne played a few games this season.
All told, then, it’s not the most exciting piece of transfer news, at least from a Liverpool point of view, but it’s one that makes sense given Clyne has yet to see the pitch at Anfield this season as third choice at the position.
