Jurgen Klopp grateful for Champions League break

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp says he is thankful that he doesn’t need to focus on the Champions League until February, with Liverpool drawn to face Bayern Munich in the Round of 16.

With the Reds cruising through the Christmas fixture list and opening a six-point gap at the top of the Premier League, the focus has very much been on domestic football.

Yet with the New Year just around the corner, European football will very much be back on the cards very soon but Klopp is happy to not have to think about it for the next month.

Klopp said: “Bayern is the strongest rival for Liverpool because that is our opponent in the next round,” Klopp told a news conference.

“If you ask me for a favourite, Juventus is the team everybody has to beat, not only because Cristiano [Ronaldo] is there, but as well as that.

“[They are a] very experienced team, but thank God I don’t have to think about the Champions League until February! It feels good, but in February we will be ready for that.”
