Liverpool will make call on key player’s fitness this week after worrying injury

Liverpool are waiting anxiously to discover the full extent of Roberto Firmino’s ankle injury after the Brazilian twisted his ankle against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Sturridge was subbed on to replace Firmino and his inability to provide the same presence in front of goal or the same energy in harassing United’s midfielders on the ball really highlighted the lack of depth in attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp.

With Watford and Everton facing the Reds before the end of the week, it’s likely that Firmino will miss both outings unless there is a major turnaround.

Firmino left Old Trafford on crutches which is always concerning and Liverpool are now waiting on the results of a scan to ascertain whether or not he is able to take part in any football this week while it seems prudent that he would miss the game against Watford on Wednesday.

Klopp will need to be clever with his team selection to avoid another toothless display with Xherdan Shaqiri raring to go.

The goalless stalemate with United still allowed Liverpool to leapfrog Manchester City by one point and heading into the business end of the season, it’s up to the Reds to remain consistent in order to claim their first Premier League title.
