Harry Wilson and the Hope of Impressing Against Borussia Dortmund

The Liverpool winger is looking forward to matching up against Borussia Dortmund.
Pre-season is all about fitness. But for some, it’s also about strutting your stuff. Jürgen Klopp has several promising players with Liverpool on their tour in the United States and they will be looking to impress against the likes of Borussia Dortmund on Friday. Harry Wilson will be looking at these pre-season matches against elite opposition as an opportunity to prove his worth in Klopp’s plans.
“It’s what you want,” said Wilson. “I think you need those friendlies we had back home; they’re about getting minutes in your legs and getting used to playing with each other again, or playing with players you haven’t played with.
“They were great, but now I think all the lads are ready to step it up against a really good European team.”
Harry Wilson isn’t too far away from being one of the young guys on the tour. Although at 22-years-old he may not have many more opportunities to crack into Liverpool’s senior squad. A successful loan spell at Derby County last season suggests Wilson has some good stuff but Liverpool are on another level now.
Still, the experience of being on a pre-season tour with Liverpool is invaluable for younger players. They learn what’s expected of all the players and how the unity of the team is the more important thing. And they get to strut.
“They all look like they’re enjoying it, they’re all showcasing their talents,” Wilson noted. “They’re all doing really well. The senior lads are really good as well, they make you feel a part of the group.
“I remember a few years ago when it was my first trip, they were brilliant with me. They’re the same with the young lads now, so the group is really tight.
“When you’re young, you kind of have this ‘no fear’ feeling – you want to go out there, you want to impress the manager and the senior pros that you’re training with and ultimately get better. When you’re at a young age, nothing fazes you and you just try to do as well as you can.”
