Rumor Mongering: Liverpool Scouting Fenerbache Goalkeeper

Reports indicate that Liverpool are among a host of clubs looking at Turkish goalkeeper, Berke Ozer.
Liverpool’s transfer window has been sanguine, to say the least. Which, if maybe mildly disappointing, is also a welcome change of pace from the roller coaster of emotional torment that are previous windows.
I remember, vividly, how gut wrenching the windows involving names like Arda Turan and a young, pre-evidence of racism Antoine Griezmann were to the psyche of Liverpool fandom. The blush that we might even be considered. The rush of hope at what might be. The soul crushing ennui when we realize that all of it was for naught. It was a devastating cycle of intense hope and absolute despair.
Which is why I’m totally fine with a relatively quiet window. But that’s not what the rumor mongers want. Which is why the one little space in Liverpool’s Window of Peace that has been a bit ruffled looks to be the only space in which the rumor mongers have even a fighting chance at getting involved.
To catch you up, at the beginning of this week, Jurgen Klopp essentially confirmed that Simon Mignolet would retain his spot as the backup keeper heading into this coming season. The very next day, Simon’s agent indicated that, well, maybe the Belgian isn’t exactly 100% happy with his current role and situation with the club and would welcome a move away.
Enter the rumor mongers who are now once more able to tack Liverpool onto a list of teams interested in a young goalkeeper. This time, the reports come out of Turkey where Liverpool are listed among Manchester City and Basel as the group of teams scouting 19 year-old, Fenerbache keeper Berke Ozer.
The young keeper is, to use a technical term, an absolute unit, but is clearly still only one for the future. And with Liverpool having just recently extended the deal of and then loaned out Kamil Grabara, a real pursuit of Ozer doesn’t seem to make much sense.
Add into that whole mix that Ozer only made one league appearance for Fenerbache and I’d say something smells off. Perhaps the scouts for the youth like Ozer as a project and with Grabara out on loan, could be useful for the youth team. But he doesn’t look like the immediate answer to the potentiality of Simonn Mignolet leaving. Which means that, even if it does come to pass, this is likely not the back up goalkeeper move we’re earnestly looking for.
