Rumour Mongering: Reds Ready to Enter Bidding War for Kai Havertz

It’s Bayern and Dortmund and Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid and Barcelona vs. Liverpool.
If you’re one of Europe’s top ten clubs, chances are you’re in for Kai Havertz as Bayer Leverkusen await the windfall of a massive bidding war for the 20-year-old widely touted as one of Europe’s top—and maybe the top—talents.
At least that’s the story from SportBild, who have Liverpool ready to bid big for Havertz along with Bayern Munich and Dortmund and Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid and Barcelona and maybe a few others on top of that.
It’s Bayern, Real, and Barca who are said to be the frontrunners, but there’s a long time to go between now and the summer of 2020 and little indication of where Havertz’ future truly does lie—other than that it’s likely away from Leverkusen.
Havertz agreed to stay at his current club for another season despite widespread interest in him this past summer, with Leverkusen bribing the youngster by doubling his salary while keeping the same term as his previous contract.
That means that he’s still tied to Leverkusen until 2022. And that means that next summer, with two years to run, Leverkusen likely have to cash in on him given his value would decrease if they waited until there was just a year left.
Regardless of who signs him, it’s expected Leverkusen won’t consider letting him go for anything less than £100M—and if that lengthy list of rumoured suitors is accurate, one imagines they won’t have a hard time getting it.
