Update on Xherdan Shaqiri's injury situation

The Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst has provided an update on Xherdan Shaqiri’s puzzling injury situation as the Swiss midfielder remains decommissioned.
The club issued an update on Wednesday as Jurgen Klopp explained that Shaqiri was expected back in training this week but added: “It just takes a little bit longer than we expected and that’s all.”
Paul Gorst told the Echo live blog: “He is injured. Alisson Becker had a calf problem that ruled him out for over two months and Shaqiri has a problem himself in that area.
“He’s currently in Switzerland working hard on getting fit and I imagine he will be placed on a bespoke training regime, if he hasn’t already, at some point at Liverpool’s training base.
“It has come at such an inopportune time for him, however. He will certainly have played a part in the Carabao Cups games against MK Dons and Arsenal had it not been for this problem.
“Hopefully he can shake it off sooner rather than later.”
Shaqiri joined Liverpool from Stoke City for £13m and it’s really unfortunate that he has been unable to make a fist of things at Anfield recently as supporters really enjoy watching him play.
With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain nearing peak fitness, Liverpool will be hoping to see Shaqiri return to action to head into the festive fixture with a nearly fully fit squad.
Nathaniel Clyne is still injured and will be for the remainder of the season after he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during pre-season.
