Alexander-Arnold explains how the Anfield crowd inspired Liverpool against the Hammers

Reds right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold believes that the Anfield crowd played a big part in Liverpool defeating West Ham United 3-2 last night in the Premier League.

Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum opened the scoring in the first-half, but Hammers defender Issa Diop equalised shortly after.

Despite Liverpool’s dominance with the ball, West Ham took the lead through midfielder Pablo Fornals early in the second-half.

However, that particular goal woke Liverpool up, as forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both scored shortly after to secure three more points for the Reds.

Liverpool possess a 22-point lead at the top of the table. Four more victories would ensure Liverpool a maiden Premier League title.

Alexander-Arnold believes that the crowd played a massive role in Liverpool securing the three points against the Hammers, as it was proving to be a tough game for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“Obviously the fans were unbelievable, they were massively with us especially when we were behind or conceded a goal so for us, it’s a massive help to have the fans like that,” Alexander-Arnold said, as quoted by LiverpoolFC.com.

“It’s rare that a team can concede a goal and their fans are up and they were trying to motivate us, and that makes us go even more.

“For us, we just tried to keep going, that’s the mindset that’s been drilled into us by the manager. We just need to keep going and keep going and it paid off in the end.”

Alexander-Arnold is spot on. Liverpool were not quite at their best for a lot of the night, but once the crowd got going, so did the team.

Liverpool’s next Premier League clash is against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
