Jurgen Klopp explains what Champions League triumph did for his squad

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp believes that Liverpool’s Champions League triumph in 2019 has given his team a never-say-die attitude.

That particular attitude was on display last night, as the Reds came from behind at Anfield to defeat West Ham United 3-2 in the Premier League.

Reds midfielder Gini Wijnaldum opened the scoring in the first-half, but Hammers defender Issa Diop equalised shortly after.

Despite Liverpool’s dominance with the ball, West Ham took the lead through midfielder Pablo Fornals early in the second-half.

However, that particular goal woke Liverpool up, as forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both scored shortly after to secure three more points for the Reds.

Liverpool possess a 22-point lead at the top of the table. Four more victories would ensure the club a maiden Premier League title.

Liverpool have come from behind on numerous occasions this season, and Klopp believes that winning the Champions League final last season has given his side the belief that anything is possible.

Klopp said, as quoted by Sky Sports: “The Champions League final [against Tottenham] helped a lot to know we are able to [keep winning].

“I said after, it was the worst final I played with a team but we won! We learned in that season to do the right things again and again.

“It’s a long time ago but we had to work on that – consistency, staying in the game, using different situations.

“The set-pieces brought us back tonight. Getting the momentum back again – because we had a couple after each other. There were so many things we could do better but to reach this number of games, you cannot be brilliant all the time.

“We just try to make the best of what we have. I am pleased with the attitude we showed. We lost a little bit of patience in the first half with what we did offensively.

“We wanted it a little too much, but we were forced to stay calm. The best goal we scored didn’t count but sometimes you have to squeeze it and that’s what we did tonight.”

Klopp does make a fair point. The final has seen Liverpool grow in strength, and that statement can be backed up by the fact that the club have claimed the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup since.

The Premier League title is also set to be added to the aforementioned list of achievements.
