Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Eyeing Move For Paulo Gazzaniga

We’re gonna do this, already? Let’s talk keepers.

It’s deadline day... and fresh off yesterday’s 7-2 drubbing by Aston Villa, it isn’t exactly surprising to see goalkeeper chatter spring up.

According to journalist Kevin Palmer (who broke news of the Virgil van Dijk transfer but doesn’t seem all that reliable for anything else), a loan move for Caoimhín Kelleher could open up a goalkeeper position, paving the way for for the 28-year old Argentine to come in.

You may remember Gazzaniga filling in for Hugo Lloris last season, and he did in fact seem to save just about every shot Liverpool threw at his goal in both fixtures we played against Spurs last season. Now, why would Spurs do this? Paulo has been relegated to third-string keeper after the arrival of Joe Hart. Would Gazzaniga start over Adrian if he makes his way over to Merseyside? Probably. Can he play sweeper-keeper like Alisson behind a super-high line? Probably not but that’s asking a lot from a backup goalkeeper.

It’s a seemingly out-of-nowhere type rumour that makes its way around on Deadline Day. I’d be shocked if this happens as the LFC-connected journalists have all indicated that incomings seem to be done for this window, but we’ll continue to keep tabs on this, and any other breaking, story all through the day.
