Liverpool’s current longest-serving player opens up about playing left-back

Liverpool has been out with starting left-back Andy Robertson for some time. His deputy, Kostas Tsimikas, has also been out injured after the league match against Arsenal. In turn, Jurgen Klopp resorted to the player who has played for him the longest, Joe Gomez. He recently spoke with Liverpoolfc.com about playing out of position.

“It’s different at left-back,” the #2 said. “It’s been a challenge to adapt. Small, minor differences that maybe aren’t noted – maybe how you receive the ball and so on. But people at the club know me now, they know I will give my all.

“I’ve been here long enough now but I’m grateful to play for the club. Attack each game, dig in as a team and try to do what we can do as a collective. We have some injuries but we will keep persevering.”

Gomez normally plays center-back, but left-back was the first position he played when he came to Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers played him there for his first season.
