For as poorly as Liverpool’s 2025-26 season has gone compared to expectation, the Reds have nothing on West Ham, with London’s Hammers currently in 18th and under threat of relegation ahead of their trip to Anfield this Saturday in Premier League action.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are currently two points back of Nottingham Forest and four behind Tottenham, and to have a chance of surviving they’re at the point where they really need to start finding results—and in particular, managing to record a few victories.

“Unfortunately the results we need are not coming,” Nuno said at his pre-match press conference as he prepares his side to face the Reds. “But in terms of performances, they are improving in some aspects and the clean sheet [against Bournemouth] motivates us.”

“We can’t spend too much time and sorrow thinking about what could be—we have to bounce back. It’s a big challenge and it can bring the best out of us. That’s the motivation. Being a chaser is the reality, but it’s been that way for a while and we’re in the fight.”

Liverpool managed a 2-0 victory over West Ham in their first meeting back in November. That came in the midst of the most difficult run of the campaign for the Reds, and the Hammers will be hoping now for a result that similarly goes against form on Saturday.

“We know we played at home against Liverpool so now it’s at Anfield,” Nuno added. “We know how tough it’ll be. So new things, new answers, new challenge, but we’re ready to play. The boys work hard so we are confident while realising how tough it is going to be.”
