Mohamed Salah Doubtful for Merseyside Derby

Carrying a slight knock and with the second leg against City on deck, Mo Salah’s involvement against Everton remains doubtful.

The memories of Wednesday’s match are painted in technicolor for Liverpool fans. A 3-nil victory against the all-but-crowned Champions of England, as breathtaking to watch as it is comprehensive in review. Fans had all to celebrate for the past few days.

The only thing to maybe steal a bit of the sheen off of what stands as the best 90 minutes of football under both Klopp and FSG was the sight of Mo Salah walking off the pitch and down the tunnel in the second half. No clear reports since have been given, though there has been some encouraging news in the way of Mo assuring Klopp that the injury isn’t serious. Still, the scene was enough to stop most Liverpool fans dead in their tracks.

At his press conference ahead of Saturday’s derby tilt against Everton, Jurgen Klopp further clarified that Mo remains doubtful for the match, but would go no further in providing details as to the nature of his injury.

“[There are] still 24 hours to go pretty much, or 23 hours to go until we start. So let’s see what happens.

“If he is a doubt, he will not be involved. That’s how it is with all of them; if they are not 100 per cent fit they cannot be involved. I would not rest a player with absolutely nothing, with no problem.

While some of us would have no problem trotting out the U16s if it came to it, Klopp made it clear that even with Liverpool’s deep run into the Champions League, he believes each match is worth fighting for. The idea of sending out a squad not set to compete - in a derby no less - does not give Klopp satisfaction.

“I cannot make Mo available because it’s the derby, I would never do it. It’s not possible. I don’t think any of our supporters want us to do that.

“If you are available you are involved; if you are not available you’re not involved.”

There you have it. Though we’re no closer to knowing the extent of Salah’s injury, we can at least suss out that it’s not serious enough to rule him completely out of the Derby. More, we have further confirmation that Klopp’s philosophy is to win and win everything possible. That’s exactly what most supporters would like to here. Bring on the Toffees!
