Rumor Mongering: Lazar Markovic to Olympiacos

Remember what used to constitute a red card in the Champions League?

Sure, why not?

Liverpool signed Lazar Markovic for what was (at the time) an impressive £20 million fee from Benfica in the summer of 2014. And seemingly ever since that fateful day, Liverpool has been trying to move the young Serbian winger on.

After not being given much of a look-in under Brendan Rodgers, Markovic completed loan spells at Fenerbahçe, Sporting Lisbon, Hull, and most recently Anderlecht. In Belgium, the 24-year-old winger scored 1 goal in 7 total appearances. Hardly a successful loan, you could say.

Markovic now has a year left on his Liverpool contract, and the club has more than moved on. It’s fair to say that Klopp & Co. would like to recoup money--any money at all--for this player.

Allegedly Greek giants Olympiacos are interested in Markovic’s services, according to some obscure Greek sources. Great, you can have him for three-fifty (preferably pounds, but at this point any currency will do), two bottle caps, and a cat’s eye marble. We’re going to have to hold out for that marble. We won’t be pushed around, Olympiacos.

While this particular rumor probably isn’t true, hopefully Liverpool can find a buyer somewhere.

It’s certainly not how many of us thought it would turn out for Markovic, who seemed to show so much promise when he first signed for a Liverpool side that had come oh-so-close to ending their league drought.
