Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Make Surprise Bid For Roma’s Alisson

A tenuous report from Brazil claims that Liverpool have stepped in front of Real Madrid and made a concrete offer for Roma’s Alisson.

Among all the assured takes that Real Madrid are about to officially make a move for AS Roma’s Alisson, a tiny glimmer of hope arises for Liverpool supporters. A report in Brazil from Globo Esporte is implying that Liverpool have stepped in to thwart Madrid’s plans to sign the sought-after goalkeeper.

Liverpool are definitely looking for a goalkeeper this summer with Simon Mignolet expected to leave for more playing time. The Belgian lost his starting spot to Loris Karius but he still has plenty of talent in him to be the number one at a decent European club.

So, Jürgen Klopp will either be looking to bring in a keeper to compete with Karius or to supplant the German from the start. But the prices being quoted for in-form keepers are astronomical. Roma are reportedly asking for £80m from any club looking to sign Alisson.

The links between Liverpool and Europe’s top keepers have appeared in print endlessly since the Champions League final with Real Madrid. Karius had a match to forget that night in Kiev and the narrative ever since has been laden with insinuations of his unsuitability to a side with Liverpool’s ambitions.

But Karius had a very good second half of the season with Liverpool. Much of that is thanks to a solidified defense in front of him but the young keeper made plenty of important saves along the way that were all his own.

I would assume exactly zero credibility from Globo Esporte. They might be fine folks but it’s not very likely that they have the inside scoop on Alisson’s, Liverpool’s or Real Madrid’s intentions. Maybe they like to stir a simmering pot just for fun. Or maybe Alisson’s BFF works there and actually does know what’s going on in the hottest summer transfer drama going.
