Xherdan Shaqiri is not Nabil Fekir’s replacement

Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri is not Nabil Fekir’s replacement, according to The Mirror.

Fekir’s transfer to Liverpool collapsed when there were complications with his medical tests last Friday. That ultimately ended an agreed £53million deal between Liverpool and Lyon.

Many believed that Liverpool were considering Shaqiri as his direct replacement, but that is not the case.

Shaqiri, 26, has a relégation release clause in his contract which is somewhere around the sum of £12million. Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring the winger in as depth in the attacking half of the pitch, as he does not see him as a marquee signing.

Liverpool will step up their efforts to land Shaqiri after the World Cup in Russia after it appears that the Swiss international is keen to come to Anfield.

To add to this news, The Mirror also reported that Fekir still remains a possibility to sign for the Merseyside club.

Liverpool’s main concern regarding Fekir was an issue with his knee, and Lyon have looked at ways of renegotiating the terms of the £53million transfer.

If Jean-Michel Aulas can come up with an agreement to suit Liverpool, then a deal may still go through. Klopp still remains keen on the player, and the player also still has his heart set on a move to Anfield.
