Keita to sit out training as a precaution

Naby Keita will not train ‘for the next couple of days’ after missing Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City due to a sore neck, the club have revealed.

Keita had been expected to start in New Jersey as he continues to adapt to a new style of football but was not risked after sustaining the slight injury.

Manager Jurgen Klopp put the problem down to a prolonged eight-hour plane journey and said it was likely aggravated by his sleeping position.

The club have deemed it sensible to allow Keita time to recover, permitting to miss the ‘immediate sessions’.

On Thursday, the remainder of the squad are set to undertake some post-match recovery work followed by some running.

The club were keen to stress that Keita has yet to be ruled out of Saturday’s clash with fierce rivals Manchester United in Michigan.

Regardless, the Guinean international should have plenty of minutes under his belt by the time the new season gets underway, with games against Napoli and Torino pencilled in for the final week of pre-season.
