‘Liverpool want to keep hold of Mignolet’
Liverpool would like to keep Simon Mignolet but he ‘must’ play regular football, the player’s agent Nico Vaesen has said.
Mignolet has slipped to third in the pecking order behind Alisson and Loris Karius and has not featured for the Reds since January.
He is unhappy with the situation and, according to reports, is close to sealing a switch to Serie A side Napoli, who are in the market for a goalkeeper after Alex Meret broke his arm in pre-season.
Vaesen has confirmed that discussions are currently taking place and believes Mignolet deserves a spot in a team of that calibre.
“We’re talking, but there’s no agreement,” he said. “It’s in the interest of the club to find a solution.
“Liverpool want to keep him, but he wants to and must play. He deserves to play in a great team.

“For them [Napoli], Simon represents the best option in terms of quality, but there’s also the financial aspect.”
Liverpool’s apparent reluctance to part with the out-of-favour 30-year-old could be due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Karius, who said he would consider his options after losing the no.1 spot to Alisson.
While the club may ultimately sanction a move for the Belgian, his wage demands could prove a stumbling block.
Let’s say Ochoa will be the cheaper option: fee and wages.

Mignolet, who joined from Sunderland back in 2013, has until the end of the month to resolve his future.
