Jordan Henderson Suspended For Merseyside Derby
The Liverpool captain picked up two yellow cards against Watford
It was a rather successful trip to Watford this afternoon for Liverpool, except for Jordan Henderson picking up his second yellow card and being sent off in the 82nd minute in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Watford. The skipper will be available for the Reds’ midweek Champions League clash in Paris, but will be suspended for next weekend’s match against Everton. Having missed some time with injury this season, this is a blow for the captain and Jurgen Klopp.
After the match, Klopp was asked for his assessment of the two yellow cards Henderson picked up, “I think they were both yellow cards but things like this happen if you play in a defensive midfield situation.” Klopp continued, “I don’t know how many challenges Hendo had today or situations where he had to be closing up either the player or the space. Twice he was there with a hand and made a tactical foul.”
“The second one I didn’t like too much because we wanted to change him in that situation, Fabinho was ready and then he got it. Things like this happen, it is nothing serious and we won the game.”
“The only not-so-nice thing is that he cannot play against Everton but that’s already accepted.”
It is likely that Fabinho will take Henderson’s place in the lineup next weekend, but Klopp has options. He could choose to bring in James Milner for stability or bring in Naby Keita back into the lineup.
