Rio Ferdinand believes Klopp had one-eye on Merseyside derby with team selection

Rio Ferdinand believes Jurgen Klopp may have had one eye on this Sunday’s Merseyside derby after resting Trent Alexander-Arnold against PSG.

Dejan Lovern came in for the 20-year-old, while Joe Gomez is playing right-back with a tough task against Neymar.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “Trent did well in the first game at Anfield (against PSG),” he said on BT Sport.

“So I think Trent is more than capable of handling Neymar on his day.

“But listen Gomez is a lot quicker, stronger I think, defensively. He’s got that head on to play right-back.

“Also they’ve got the Merseyside derby at the weekend so he might be thinking ahead to that.

“The six in front of that (back four) really picks itself there.

“They’re going to be a threat as well. I don’t think they’re just going to sit back and say let’s try and contain this PSG team.

“They’ve got the players there that will scare the lights out of this Liverpool back three or four, whatever they play today.”
