Rumour Mill: Andy Robertson Offered new Contract

Get him signed up.
Andrew Robertson’s rise is an often told story. Released by his boyhood club Celtic as a teenager, the Glasgow native had to work his way up from amateur level football at Queen’s Park, back to the Scottish Premiership at Dundee United, over the border to Hull City before making the leap to Champions League football with Liverpool. All of this while becoming captain of his country. The boy written off as a 15 year old has become the man praised by all. Not least among Liverpool fans, with the Scotsman finally, finally fixing the chronic issue at left back (Fabio Aurelio ultras, we can have this out another day).
The good news is that it looks like Robertson could be at Anfield a while longer, if reports are to believe. Tom Hopkinson of the Sunday Mirror states that the Liverpool heirarchy have offered Robertson a new deal, with the Scotland captain to double his wages to £60,000 a week. To be honest, the most surprising fact in this is that Robertson’s current salary is merely £30k a week. Doubling this will still put him on less than half of what Luke Shaw now earns at Manchester United, and I daresay you couldn’t find a Liverpool supporter on the planet who would swap our Andy for the Englishman.
Renewing Robertson’s contract is the biggest no brainer that Jürgen Klopp and Michael Edwards will ever have to make. He has been simply terrific since arriving at Liverpool, combining great athleticism, technique, and excellent defensive instincts. It’s hard to find any point at which his performances have been at all subpar. Alberto Moreno looks almost certain to leave the club on a free transfer next summer, which would make Robertson the only remaining senior left back at Anfield. He is still only 24 years old, which suggests that he should be able to maintain his current level for many years to come. Get him signed up.
