Nathaniel Clyne on why he chose to join Bournemouth on loan

Nathaniel Clyne has revealed that he chose to join Bournemouth on loan over a move to Cardiff City because of manager Eddie Howe.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock was critical of Liverpool after Clyne opted for a six-month deal with the Cherries once the transfer window had opened, claiming that Jurgen Klopp’s side “lacked respect” in their January business.

However, the right-back highlighted the influence of Eddie Howe as his primary reason for choosing Bournemouth over Warnock’s side.

“Bournemouth have a great manager and that’s what urged me to come here,” Clyne said, according to Sky Sports. “I’ve looked at how Bournemouth play and it’s similar to my style.”

Clyne has dropped down the pecking order at Anfield after the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in his position. The England international spent the majority of last season injured and has made just four league appearances for the Reds this season, one of which was in the win against Manchester United.

“I’ve gone a whole season and a half without really playing consistent football, which is unusual for me,” Clyne said.

“Knowing you’re fit and can go out there and play but constantly not getting selected is a bit disappointing.

“I’d rather go out and find another club which would give me the opportunities to play games.”
