Jamie Carragher Isn’t Going to Hide That He’s Cheering for Liverpool

The former Red and current Sky pundit stole the mic from Gary Neville to celebrate on Sunday—and he isn’t sorry.

After looking as though they’d let things slip away, a first half advantage in the run of play transitioning to a second half that saw visitors Tottenham in the ascendency and looking the likelier to score as full time neared, suddenly Liverpool had all three points.

A late, 90th minute Tottenham own goal. A spot of good fortune for Liverpool on the back a gutsy late push to wrest back control of the match. Three points rather than one or none. It was a moment worth celebrating—which is just what Jamie Carragher did.

“I don’t apologise for that,” Carragher said of a celebratory moment that saw him steal the mic from match commentator Gary Neville. “I’m not going to hide it. I’m desperate for Liverpool to win the league. Moments like that last minute goal—I’ll let you know.”

Carragher’s appropriation of the mic and cry of, “Mo Salah, you little dancer!” led to Neville jokingly apologising to viewers because “a local fan grabbed the microphone.” After the match it was briefly touched on by the pair, leading to Carragher’s non-apology.

And with six Liverpool games to go this season, hopefully he’ll have a few more moments of live-on-Sky celebration to not apologise for between now and May 12th when the league season concludes with a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
