Markovic nearing Liverpool exit door

Lazar Markovic may finally see his Liverpool nightmare come to an end this summer, with Greek club Olympiacos reportedly considering a move for the winger.

Markovic joined from Benfica for a fee of £20million in 2014 and went on to make 34 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ Reds in his first season but struggled to make an impact, scoring only three goals.

The Serbian has subsequently been handed loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting, Hull City and Anderlecht and no longer figures in Jurgen Klopp’s plans despite the present need for attacking cover.

Greek publication Sdna report that a permanent switch may now be on the cards after Liverpool offered Olympiacos the opportunity to sign the 24-year-old, a proposition the Greek side are believed to be assessing.

A £16million deal was nearly struck with Fiorentina last summer, and it is likely the club will demand a similar figure as they look to recoup a decent portion of their initial investment.

He was omitted from Serbia’s World Cup squad so is free to discuss terms if Olympiacos look to pursue the move, meaning his departure could be imminent.

Markovic could well join fellow countryman Marko Grujic in departing Anfield, with the midfielder targeted by Lazio after an impressive loan spell with promoted side Cardiff City.
