Rumour Mongering: Real Madrid Close to Alisson Deal

Whether or not Liverpool are willing to meet Roma’s asking price looks unlikely to matter in the end.

Yesterday, rumour had it Liverpool were abandoning their pursuit of Alisson due to Roma’s transfer fee demands. In the right light, it almost looked a negotiation tactic, threatening to walk away from a player most have long assumed was leaving this summer.

In the end, it might not much matter if Roma are willing to come down from their reported €70M asking price. That’s because today, word out of Spain has Real Madrid stepping up their interest in Alisson now that they have their coaching situation sorted out.

According to AS, transfer talks are advanced. Madrid are said to be amenable to meeting Roma’s asking price for Alisson, and they have been given permission by the Serie A side to contact Alisson’s representatives in order to lay the foundations for a contract.

Alisson has said he wants his future decided before Brazil’s first game of the World Cup, on Sunday against Switzerland. It looks possible—perhaps even likely now—he’ll get his wish, and with it a move to Madrid, who were always likely favourites if they wanted him.

And for Liverpool, it seems certain they now have to move on from Alisson. The question is where they end up with it looking as though their top goalkeeping target will not be available no matter whether or not they’re willing to meet Roma’s demands.
